Lorraine studied Optometry at Bradford University, and completed her professional training working in Keighley and at Bradford Royal Infirmary. She qualified as an Optometrist in 1987. (An Optometrist, or Ophthalmic Optician, is an optician who is able to test eyes and dispense glasses. A dispensing Optician specialises in fitting and giving advice on frames and lenses)
After working for a few years in Bradford, Lorraine spent two years travelling in South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand, this included working as an Optometrist in Sydney for four months and cycling around New Zealand.
On returning to the UK Lorraine settled in Sheffield and took an MSc in Optometry. Lorraine was delighted to have the opportunity to open her own practice in 2005.
When not at work Lorraine enjoys cycling and walking with her husband, son and daughter. She is also a qualified Iyengar yoga teacher and takes a weekly class in Sheffield.
Julie worked for many years in an independent opticians in Sheffield before joining Lorraine when Lorraine opened the practice in Dronfield. In the last few years she has worked part time so that she can spend more time with her grandchildren and doing her crafting in particular card making. Julie usually works on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Leanne joined us when Julie reduced the number of days she worked. At the moment Leanne works Wednesday to Saturday. Outside work Leanne enjoys spending time with her family, a good night out and European city breaks. Leanne has a Level 2 Certificate in Optical Practice Support.
Luan is our newest member of staff. She joined us when Christine left to live in Dubai. Currently Luan works Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and alternate Saturdays. Luan has now returned from maternity leave following the birth of her second son. Luan has a Level 2 Certificate in Optical Practice Support.
The other member of staff you may see in the practice is Lorraine’s husband John. Usually behind the scenes doing the bookwork and making sure we are compliant with the NHS regulations and health and safety requirements, he also has a Level 2 Certificate in Optical Practice Support.
We have reluctantly said farewell to Christine as she heads out to Dubai to be with her daughter and new grandson. Many thanks for your contributions and your hard work over the past nine years and very best wishes for the future Christine.
